Carpet Fitting in
Woking.

Free home visit · Fixed price · Uplift & disposal included

Floors & Fix fits carpet throughout Woking's GU21–GU24 postcodes, covering Horsell, Sheerwater, St John's, Byfleet and West Byfleet. Sheerwater's 1970s concrete-floor estate means ground-floor moisture assessment is routine — we include any DPM preparation in the fixed price. Horsell and St John's 1930s semis get ply preparation as standard.

§ Local housing stock

Woking homes — what to expect.

Woking presents a strong contrast between property types — 1970s–80s Sheerwater estate housing with solid concrete floors, 1930s semis in Horsell and St John's with suspended timber ground floors, Victorian terraces around the GU21 town centre, and a growing number of regeneration new builds around Victoria Way and the wider Woking redevelopment with wet underfloor heating.

55% of Woking's housing stock dates from 1945–1980 — a period dominated by local-authority solid-concrete construction, particularly in the Sheerwater and Maybury areas of GU21. ONS Census 2021, housing stock age, Woking Borough Council area

Woking's housing diversity requires a different approach by postcode. The Victorian terraces around GU21 town centre and Maybury have suspended timber ground floors — 6mm ply is applied before carpet to prevent pile crease. In Sheerwater, the 1960s and 70s concrete ground floors are assessed for moisture at every visit; elevated readings are common and we fit a DPM before underlay as part of the fixed price. The 1930s semis in Horsell and St John's have suspended timber floors in generally good condition — ply preparation, then carpet with a quality 11mm PU foam underlay. Victoria Way regeneration new builds with wet UFH require a low-tog bonded-foam underlay within the heating system's thermal resistance specification.

§ Housing types we fit in Woking

Carpet Fitting across every property type.

01

Victorian Terrace.

Victorian and early-Edwardian terraces around Woking town centre and Maybury have suspended timber ground floors in varying condition. These properties are often held by long-term owners who are upgrading, and respond well to premium floor finishes that suit the original room proportions.

Suspended timber subfloors flex across joist spans, which causes pile crease and rippling in carpet over time. We ply-raft the floor first — a layer of 9mm structural ply screwed across the joists removes the flex entirely. On ground floors we specify a breathable felt underlay to allow air circulation through the boards beneath, preventing moisture build-up that can cause mould. All ply preparation is included in your fixed price.

02

1970s–80s Estate.

The Sheerwater estate in GU21 — a significant planned development from the 1960s and 70s — has solid concrete ground floors throughout with elevated moisture readings common on the original DPC specification. Moisture assessment before any product is fitted is essential across this estate.

Older solid concrete ground floors often carry elevated moisture readings — particularly in post-war builds where the original DPC has degraded. We test moisture at the home visit using a calibrated hygrometer before specifying any product. Where readings exceed 75% RH we install a heavy-duty DPM membrane beneath the gripper rods, sealing the slab before fitting begins. The DPM test and membrane are included in your fixed-price quote — never charged as an extra.

03

New Build (UFH).

The Victoria Way development and other Woking regeneration new builds have liquid-screed floors with wet underfloor heating throughout. These are flat, clean substrates for LVT and engineered wood provided products are UFH-rated and confirmed against the system specification.

Carpet can be used over underfloor heating, but underlay selection is critical. We specify either a low-tog bonded-foam or rubber-backed underlay with a combined thermal resistance of ≤0.15 m²K/W — exceeding this value reduces heating efficiency and can cause the system to overheat. The UFH-compatible specification is confirmed in writing on every quote so you and your heating engineer both have the documentation.

04

1930s Semi-Detached.

The 1930s semis in Horsell and St John's have suspended timber ground floors that are generally in good condition — lower moisture risk than Sheerwater's post-war stock. These are well-suited to engineered wood, LVT and carpet once the ground floor is ply-rafted.

§ Carpet Fitting questions — Woking

Common questions about carpet fitting in Woking.

Do you cover Horsell and Sheerwater as well as Woking town centre?

Yes — all of GU21–GU24 is within our service area including Horsell, Sheerwater, St John's, Byfleet, West Byfleet and Pyrford. Free home visit with no call-out charge.

My Sheerwater house has a concrete ground floor with some damp — can you still fit carpet?

Yes. We test moisture at the home visit and, where readings are elevated, install a DPM membrane before gripper rods and underlay. This is included in the fixed price — Sheerwater is one of the areas where we do this routinely.

What carpet suits a 1930s Horsell semi?

An 80/20 wool-blend twist pile is a good match for 1930s semis — the natural texture complements the proportions of these rooms and it handles family traffic well. We bring samples to your home so you can choose in your own light.

Can you fit carpet in a Woking Victoria Way new build with underfloor heating?

Yes — we specify a low-tog underlay (≤0.15 m²K/W) within the UFH system's thermal resistance limit. UFH compatibility is confirmed in writing on the quote.

How quickly can you arrange a home visit in Woking?

Typically within 2–4 days across all GU postcodes. Evening and weekend appointments are available and there is no call-out charge.
