§ LVT formats

Click-lock or glue-down — the right choice for your subfloor.

Click-lock LVT

Floats above the subfloor on a foam or cork underlay. Quick to install, fully reversible and suitable for level, dry substrates. The most practical choice for upper floors, living rooms and bedrooms where the subfloor is in good condition. Not suitable above wet underfloor heating or in high-moisture ground floors without prior moisture testing.

Glue-down LVT

Bonds directly to the prepared subfloor surface. Greater stability, no hollow spots, no risk of movement at joins. The only suitable LVT format above wet underfloor heating systems and the most reliable choice on ground floors with any history of moisture or on complex-shaped rooms where a floating floor would be impractical. We specify this format on all high-moisture and UFH installations.

Stone & Tile Effect LVT

Large-format LVT (600×600mm or 300×600mm plank) that accurately replicates natural stone or porcelain tile. Provides the look of stone without the weight, the cold feel, or the risk of cracking from building movement. Popular in hallways, kitchens and bathrooms across Berkshire and Surrey's higher-value homes.

Wood Effect LVT

Wide-plank LVT (typically 180–250mm) in oak, walnut and other wood finishes. The most popular choice for open-plan living areas, hallways and ground-floor rooms. The photographic wear layer is indistinguishable from the real thing at a glance, and the product's waterproof construction means it can go where real wood cannot.

§ LVT questions

Common questions about LVT flooring.

What is LVT flooring?

LVT stands for luxury vinyl tile — a multi-layer synthetic flooring product with a photographic wear layer that accurately replicates wood, stone and tile. It is fully waterproof, dimensionally stable and suitable for every room in the home including kitchens and bathrooms. LVT is now the most specified floor covering in UK new-build residential developments.

Is LVT suitable for kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes — LVT is fully waterproof in both click-lock and glue-down formats. It is the most practical choice for kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms and any other area where water or moisture is a regular consideration. The glue-down format is preferable in areas of very high moisture as it eliminates any possibility of water getting beneath the floor.

Can LVT be fitted over underfloor heating?

Yes. Glue-down LVT is one of the most compatible products with wet underfloor heating — its thin profile (typically 5mm) conducts heat efficiently and the adhesive bond means no air gap. We confirm the system's maximum operating temperature at the home visit and document the specification in writing. UFH surface temperature should not exceed 27°C for most LVT products.

What is the difference between click-lock and glue-down LVT?

Click-lock LVT floats above the subfloor and can be installed faster; it is well suited to level, dry substrates. Glue-down LVT bonds directly to the subfloor, providing greater stability on imperfect surfaces, eliminating hollow-sounding spots, and making it the only suitable format above wet UFH or in high-moisture ground-floor environments. We specify the right format based on the subfloor we find at the home visit.

How long does LVT installation take?

A single room can typically be fitted in half a day. A full ground floor including uplift of the existing floor and any subfloor preparation usually takes one full day. We give you a clear timeline at the home visit based on the actual conditions of your property.
