AC4 & AC5 grade · Uplift included · Free home visit · Fixed price
Floors & Fix supplies and fits laminate flooring across Berkshire, Surrey, Middlesex and Greater London. We bring samples to your home, specify the right AC rating and underlay for your property, and provide a fixed written price on the day of the visit — covering supply, fitting, uplift and door trimming.
| AC Rating | Best For | Durability | Our Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC3 | Bedrooms, guest rooms | Medium | Light residential use only |
| AC4 | Living rooms, hallways, kitchens | High | ✓ Standard recommendation |
| AC5 | Busy family homes, all areas | Very high | Heavy use / pets / children |
We supply the laminate boards and fitting accessories — underlay, door bars, expansion gap beading and thresholds — and fit everything in a single visit. No separate trips, no items invoiced separately on the day.
Your existing flooring — carpet, old laminate, vinyl — is stripped, rolled and taken away as part of the job. We leave no debris behind and do not charge separately for disposal.
Laminate requires a flat sub-floor within ±3mm under a 2m straightedge (BS 8425). If the existing floor is out of tolerance we feather-fill high spots and apply levelling compound before fitting. All preparation is included in the fixed price.
Every door is checked and trimmed to clear the new floor height as standard. New flooring raises the floor level and catching doors are a common afterthought — we deal with it before we leave so nothing is left unfinished.
AC rating indicates wear resistance. AC3 is suitable for residential bedrooms; AC4 is recommended for living rooms, hallways and kitchens with moderate foot traffic; AC5 is commercial grade and appropriate for the busiest residential areas. We recommend AC4 as a minimum for all Berkshire and Surrey homes where the floor will see regular family use.
Standard laminate is moisture-resistant but not waterproof — it should not be used in bathrooms or areas with standing water risk. In kitchens, it can work in drier areas away from the sink and dishwasher if the correct underlay and expansion gap are used. For wet areas we recommend LVT glued direct as the safer and more durable alternative.
Laminate flooring requires a foam or combination foam-DPM underlay to provide cushioning and a moisture barrier. We specify the correct underlay thickness and type at the home visit based on the subfloor condition — typically a 3mm foam-DPM combination underlay for concrete ground floors and a 3mm foam acoustic underlay for upper floors.
A single room takes half a day to a full day depending on size and subfloor preparation required. A full ground floor with uplift typically takes one day. We include door trimming, thresholds and full clean-up in the job — you don't need to arrange anyone else.
Yes, particularly at AC4 or AC5 grade. Laminate is highly resistant to scratches from pet claws and easy to clean from muddy footprints. The click-lock system makes it fully replaceable plank by plank if a section is damaged. We bring samples to your home visit so you can see the realistic wood or stone effect in your own space before deciding.
