Floors & Fix supplies and fits laminate throughout Hounslow's TW3–TW5 postcodes. Laminate works well on dry upper floors throughout Hounslow and on dry concrete ground floors in the 1960s–70s TW3 and TW4 stock. On moisture-prone ground floors in Heston and Hounslow West, we test first and recommend LVT if readings are elevated.

§ Local housing stock

Hounslow homes — what to expect.

Hounslow has a varied housing stock shaped by its diverse communities and proximity to Heathrow — 1960s–70s semi-detached housing in TW3 and TW4 Hounslow Central and Cranford with solid concrete ground floors, Victorian terraces in Brentford (TW8) and Old Isleworth (TW7) with suspended timber floors, post-war council housing in Heston with elevated moisture, and new developments in TW3 and TW5 with underfloor heating.

67% of Hounslow's housing stock was built between 1945 and 1985, with a significant proportion of local-authority solid-concrete construction in TW3 and TW4 that often carries elevated ground-floor moisture readings. ONS Census 2021, housing stock age, London Borough of Hounslow

Laminate is a practical choice for Hounslow's upper floors and dry ground-floor rooms. The 1960s and 70s semis in TW3 and TW4 Hounslow Central have solid concrete ground floors — we test moisture at the visit; if within tolerance, floating laminate on a 3-in-1 underlay performs well. On Heston and Hounslow West post-war housing with elevated moisture, LVT is the safer recommendation on ground floors. Victorian terraces in Brentford and Old Isleworth need ply preparation on the suspended timber ground floor before laminate. Upper floors throughout Hounslow's housing stock are generally good laminate candidates.

§ Housing types we fit in Hounslow

Laminate Flooring across every property type.

01

Victorian Terrace.

Victorian terraces in Brentford (TW8) and Old Isleworth (TW7) have suspended timber ground floors in varying condition — medium moisture risk given proximity to the Thames. These properties have seen significant renovation investment and the market increasingly expects quality floor finishes.

Laminate click joints are not designed to flex, and a deflecting suspended timber subfloor will stress them until they separate. We install structural ply before any laminate to eliminate movement across joist spans. An acoustic foam underlay is laid on top of the ply, reducing impact noise between floors — important in terrace and semi-detached properties. Ply preparation is included in the fixed price.

02

1960s–70s Semi-Detached.

The 1960s and 70s semis and terraces across TW3 and TW4 Hounslow Central and Cranford were built with solid concrete ground floors. DPC specifications of this era are variable and moisture readings on ground floors are often elevated, particularly in properties close to the former RAF Heston site.

Solid concrete ground floors within safe moisture tolerances are well-suited to floating laminate. We install a 3-in-1 underlay combining a DPM layer, acoustic foam, and vapour barrier — protecting the boards from any residual ground moisture. A correct expansion gap is left at every wall and threshold, preventing the floor from lifting or buckling as the boards move with temperature changes.

03

Post-War Council.

Post-war local-authority housing in Hounslow West and Heston (TW3–TW5) has solid concrete ground floors with elevated moisture readings common on properties dating from the 1950s and early 60s. Ground-floor moisture assessment before any product is fitted is essential on these properties.

Laminate is moisture-sensitive — sustained damp beneath the boards causes the HDF core to swell, joints to rise, and the floor to become uneven and noisy. On ground-floor concrete with a history of moisture problems we test at the home visit and advise honestly. In many cases we recommend LVT instead: it delivers a similar wood-look finish but with a fully waterproof core that tolerates damp ground floors. We will never fit laminate on a subfloor where the risk of moisture damage is high.

04

New Build (UFH).

New-build apartments and houses in the TW3 and TW5 redevelopment zones have liquid-screed floors with wet underfloor heating. These are flat, clean substrates for LVT and engineered wood provided UFH-rated products are specified.

Laminate can be used over underfloor heating, but only with products and underlays specifically rated for it. We supply UFH-rated laminate boards and specify underlay with a thermal resistance of ≤0.10 m²K/W — lower than the limit for carpet or LVT, as laminate transfers heat less efficiently. Every product we install over UFH is confirmed in writing as manufacturer-approved for the application.

§ Laminate Flooring questions — Hounslow

Common questions about laminate flooring in Hounslow.

Can laminate be fitted in a Cranford 1960s semi ground floor?

We test moisture first. Cranford's 1960s semis have concrete ground floors — if the slab is dry and within tolerance, floating laminate on a 3-in-1 underlay works well. If moisture is elevated, we'd recommend LVT instead.

Is laminate a good choice for the upper floors of a Brentford Victorian terrace?

Yes — the suspended timber upper floors in Brentford's Victorian terraces are good laminate candidates with minimal preparation. A clean, practical finish for bedrooms and landings.

What laminate grade do you recommend for a Hounslow family home?

AC4 for living rooms and hallways — heavy residential traffic rated. We bring a range of styles and finishes to the home visit.

Can laminate be fitted in a TW3 new build with underfloor heating?

Yes, with UFH-rated products and compatible underlay (≤0.10 m²K/W). UFH suitability is confirmed in writing on the quote.

Does laminate installation include uplift of the existing floor?

Yes — uplift and disposal, sub-floor preparation, fitting and door trimming are all included in the fixed price given at the free home visit.
