Glue-down pattern fit · Fully waterproof · UFH-compatible · Fixed price
Herringbone LVT is parquet-proportioned luxury vinyl laid in the classic zigzag pattern — glue-down only, set out from a centre line so the pattern runs true. We supply and fit it across Berkshire, Surrey, Middlesex and Greater London, with the subfloor prepared to the flat tolerance the pattern demands, all in one fixed written price.
Herringbone locks every block against its neighbours at right angles — a geometry a floating click floor cannot hold across a room. Every block is bonded to the subfloor individually, which keeps the pattern true for the life of the floor. It also makes herringbone the right call over wet underfloor heating, where glue-down is the only LVT format we fit. See our main LVT flooring page for format details.
A herringbone floor is only as good as its setting-out: we strike a centre line, dry-lay the first runs, and work outward so the pattern lands symmetrically with matched border cuts at the walls. Started from a wall instead, the zigzag drifts visibly across the room — the most common fault in cheap herringbone fitting.
Hundreds of small blocks telegraph every hollow and high spot, so the subfloor is prepared to a tighter flatness than plank LVT needs: structural ply over suspended timber, levelling compound over concrete, moisture tested before the adhesive goes anywhere near the floor. All preparation is included in the fixed quote — read how our pricing works.
The pattern suits the Victorian and Edwardian homes that fill our service area — and unlike real parquet, the waterproof construction shrugs off wet shoes, dogs and buggy wheels in a busy hallway. Oak-effect blocks in a light or mid tone are the most popular choice; samples come to the free home visit.
Herringbone LVT is luxury vinyl tile cut as short parquet-proportioned blocks — typically around 120 × 600mm — and laid in the classic zigzag herringbone pattern. It gives the look of a traditional parquet floor with the practical advantages of LVT: fully waterproof, stable, compatible with underfloor heating, and suitable for kitchens and hallways where real parquet would be a risk.
A herringbone pattern locks every block against its neighbours at 90 degrees, which a floating click system cannot hold reliably across a whole room — the pattern works the joints apart. Glue-down installation bonds every block to the prepared subfloor individually, keeping the pattern true. It also means the subfloor must be flat to a tight tolerance, which is why preparation is part of every herringbone quote.
Yes — laying hundreds of small blocks in a true pattern, setting out from a centre line and border-cutting at every wall takes considerably longer than straight plank. The product itself is similar in price; the difference is fitting time. We give one fixed written price at the free home visit so the figure is clear before any work is booked.
It is one of the most requested finishes in the Victorian and Edwardian homes across our area — the parquet pattern matches the period, while the waterproof construction copes with the suspended timber subfloors and busy hallways these houses have. The timber is ply-boarded to a flat, rigid deck first, which is included in the quote.
Yes — glue-down LVT is one of the best floor coverings for wet UFH, and herringbone is glue-down by nature. We specify products rated for heated screeds, keep surface temperature within the 27°C product limit, and confirm the UFH-compatible specification in writing on the quote.
We bring herringbone samples to your door, check the subfloor and give you a fixed price. See our full LVT service, engineered wood for real-timber parquet looks, or get in touch.
